The ripple effect of our thoughts
How what we consume, affects every aspect of our physical, energetic, and mental being

We've all heard of the phrase, we are what we eat, but what about we are what we don't digest, process, or let go of?  We truly are what we think, and right now, let's be honest we have a lot to think about. New emotional challenges come knocking on our door daily right now and how we choose to receive information and respond, has a profound impact on our physical and mental health. One immediate impact is how we receive and respond may set the trajectory for the rest of our day. How we interact with others. How we make decisions.  Are we doing them as a reaction, or response? Is it from a place of calm, or frustration. In short, every thought ripples out.

To understand, let’s look at what happens in our bodies when we have a thought.

Let’s begin with meridians. Meridians are channels or circuits of energy which in traditional chinese medicine (TCM) we call inner pathways - a subtle energetic highway, not visible to the naked eye but rivers through our *fascial system. In Sanskrit we call these energy lines nadi’s, in TCM, meridians. These internal energetic rivers are where the qi (energy) flows in and through the body.

*Fascia is a highly intelligent connective tissue which literally acts as a sack for joints, bones, ligaments - your whole skeletal system is held together by fascia. This incredible fabric carries information - as fast as lightning and acts as a 3d matrix responding and moulding precisely to the way you move.

Within the body, the meridians flow interconnectedly with the fascia by carrying a highly conductive plasma through the fascial system. Fluids that electromagnetically absorb the energetic currents of all our emotional flavours, feelings and thoughts.

So the emotion literally translates and communicates into the fascia which then touches the meridian network running through all the bodily organs and systems. Think about that for a moment, that’s all 14 systems directly affected by your thoughts. Imagine the effect of your thoughts.

If we become stuck in a cycle of thought patterns, and we repeat that thought pattern, it becomes what we call in yoga, a samskara like an energetic groove. A new neuro-pathway is created. If it’s negative and becomes autonomous the whole system is affected, energy becomes blocked. Feelings of fear freeze us, that affects how we breathe, we tense up, feel stuck in our movement, it debilitates the digestive system. Frustration, leads to anger, anger to rage, we toxic load our liver, and feel even more frustrated, it’s a cycle. Same applies with anxiety. I’ve witnessed so many women manifest IBS through bottling emotions of nervousness and worry, affecting the health and energy of the stomach and spleen.

Can you identify with any stories or patterns, learned behaviours or beliefs that you’ve experienced this samskara phenomena? Or perhaps you’ve managed to break the cycle through changing your thoughts, patterns, habits?  No judgement please - this is a life's work! :)

So reflect for a moment, are you consciously consuming, or unconsciously causing your own inner suffering?

Ok, so we want to create new habits, but where do we begin?

We begin with working on bringing awareness. Commit yourself to awareness.

Keep it simple. The most basic, will be the most effective.

On waking - check in. Awareness of your first thoughts on waking, simple, hugely powerful. Have you woken with a particular emotional flavour? We all wake up some mornings inside out with ourselves, but do you dismiss it, or sit with it just for a moment? Is that indicating what you may need today?

Observe what you’re consuming. Not just your food! This one is especially important in these times, fake news, media, fear as an epidemic, it all adds up to tremendous pressure on our nervous systems. Every interaction our senses have, carry information. Media, discussions, eye contact. Subconsciously, we have to process and digest it all.

Observe where you expend your energy. Who and what do you interact with, is it feeding you, or draining you? Women, are you tuning in to your differing needs throughout your cycle. This can be such a game changer when we honour this.

Top energy management tips:

1 - On waking, Iis there a need to rush out of bed?  Can you take a moment just to be grateful for waking, hand on heart, breathe. Give thanks, gratitude, for another day, fresh opportunity.

2 - Check in with your morning routine. Don’t underestimate the impact of this. Can you adapt it based on your energetic needs? I know for myself, awareness of my cycle is a biggie and how the chemical shift occurring throughout the month requires adaptation. Honour those bleed days and rest!

3 - Reaching straight for the phone? I personally find diving straight into social takes me away from me. Read the wrong bit of fake news and we are asking for an energetic uphill battle. Give yourself at least 30 minutes before checking the phone, longer if possible.

4 - Sit and reflect on your routine, habits, patterns, reactions and responses. What is serving you? What needs to go?

5  - My personal favourites are getting out in nature in the fresh air, journaling, affirmations - ‘I am../ today I will’. An all time winner, one hand on heart space, close your eyes, and deeply breathe.  Learning to sit with our emotions as they are , not needing to ‘fix’ anything, is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves. When we sit with discomfort, something truly magical happens. The intensity dissipates. All programming and preconditioned expectations of ourselves, dissipates. We return to our true essence.

We see the reality of a situation. Our ego voice quietens. We drop into source. The power of higher self rises, intuition whispers her sweet guidance. We return to peace. We calm the mind, and in doing so, we nourish the heart and soul. That my friend, ripples out.

So, amidst the craziness of the world right now, remember to consume what serves you. Do this, and trust me, your energy will pay you back generously.

Big H love.
